Complete RTP guide: what Return to Player is, how it's calculated, values for live games and ADM slots, and why it guarantees nothing in a single session.

RTP is the acronym for Return to Player. It is the percentage of total bets that a game returns to players over the long run. If a game has 96% RTP, for every €100 wagered it returns €96 on average — and the casino keeps €4 (the so-called house edge).
How RTP Is Calculated
RTP is calculated over millions of rounds by certified laboratories (such as eCOGRA, BMM, iTech Labs) and declared by the provider in the game documentation. It is not a per-session value: it is a statistical average over the long run. In individual sessions the variance can be enormous.
RTP in Live Casino Games
| Game | RTP | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Baccarat (Banker) | 98.94% | House edge 1.06% — among the lowest |
| Blackjack (basic strategy) | up to 99.29% | Depends on the table rules |
| European roulette | 97.30% | Single zero |
| Lightning Roulette | 97.30% | Same base RTP, but with high variance |
| Crazy Time | 95.41% | Average RTP — varies by segment |
| Dream Catcher | 96.58% | Multiplier segments lower the effective RTP |
| Funky Time | 96.09% | RTP varies by bet type |
| Gonzo's Treasure Hunt (4x) | 99.96% | Highest RTP available under specific conditions |
RTP in Slots
Licensed slots must have a minimum RTP of 90% by law. In practice most modern titles are between 94% and 97%. Some slots have a variable RTP depending on the casino (the provider offers different "versions" of the game).
- Gates of Olympus: 96.50%
- Sweet Bonanza: 96.47%
- Starlight Princess: 96.50%
- Big Bass Bonanza: 96.71%
- Dog House Megaways: 96.55%
RTP and Volatility: The Fundamental Difference
RTP and volatility are two distinct concepts that influence each other:
- High RTP + low volatility: many small wins, stable session (e.g. Baccarat)
- High RTP + high volatility: few wins but potentially large (e.g. Dead or Alive 2, RTP 96.82%)
- Low RTP + high volatility: an unfavorable combination for those playing with a limited bankroll
Why RTP Guarantees Nothing in a Single Session
The certified RNG (Random Number Generator) mechanism guarantees that each round is independent of the previous ones. A slot with 96% RTP does not "have to" pay 96% in every session — that percentage only emerges over millions of rounds. In 100 spins you could win 200% or lose your entire bankroll: both scenarios are statistically possible.
How to Find a Game's RTP
- Look for the "i" (information) button or the "?" menu in the game
- Consult the provider's page (Pragmatic Play, Evolution, NetEnt all have the data published)
- Check Spinlytics: for live game shows we show the RTP on each game's page
